Statement by American Honda Regarding Replacement Engine Short Block Recall: 2015-2016 Honda CR-V

  • Sixteen CR-V vehicles that experienced prior engine repairs affected
  • Replacement engine short blocks will be inspected and, if needed, replaced, free of charge

2016 honda cr-v se

Honda will voluntarily recall sixteen CR-V vehicles from the 2015 and 2016 model years that previously experienced engine short block replacement in the United States to inspect and, if needed, replace the replacement short blocks, free of charge.

A small number of replacement engine short blocks may have been assembled with pistons specified for markets other than the United States. Incorrect pistons could potentially result in a loss of expected engine power, which could increase the risk of a crash. This concern was discovered and reported to Honda by a dealer technician who recognized incorrect pistons prior to installing a replacement short block during an unrelated repair. Honda has received no customer reports of problems related to this issue.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer as soon as possible for repair. Due to the relatively small number of affected vehicles, where possible, Honda is currently attempting to contact owners of affected vehicles by phone to schedule inspections. Owners of 2015-2016 CR-Vs can also determine if their individual vehicles require repair by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138. Mailed notification to owners of any remaining unrepaired vehicles will occur in early-June 2017.

Statement by American Honda Regarding Rear Grab Rail Bracket Safety Recall: 2015-2016 Honda Fit LX

2015_Honda_Fit_145

Honda will voluntarily recall 25,367 model-year 2015-2016 Fit LX vehicles in the United States to replace the rear grab rail brackets. The rear grab rail brackets in certain Fit LX trim vehicles were not manufactured to Honda’s design specifications. In the event of a collision that triggers a side curtain airbag deployment, the rear grab rail brackets may interfere with the airbag deployment, increasing the risk of passenger injury. No market occurrences have been reported related to this issue, which was discovered during internal testing.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage each owner of an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin in early December, 2015. Additionally, owners of these vehicles can now determine if their vehicles will require repair by going towww.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.

Acura to Showcase Legendary Performance Heritage and Personalization at 2015 SEMA Show

  • Highly modified 2016 ILX by Galpin Auto Sports will also debut at SEMA during the Acura press conference on Nov. 3

Acura’s 2015 SEMA showcase will be highlighted by a custom-restored 1993 Acura Legend sedan owned by actor and rap artist Ludacris. Stepping up its game from the 2014 SEMA Show – where the performance-oriented Galpin Auto Sports Acura TLX was unveiled – the luxury brand will also feature a wide variety of vehicles showcasing its performance heritage and its products’ customization potential at the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

Following a collision that severely damaged Ludacris’ cherished 1993 Legend, Team Acura set about to artfully restore and modify the vehicle under the guidance of Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles and under the watchful eye of Acura Global Creative Director, Dave Marek. Fans can follow the build progress leading up to SEMA on Acura (@Acura) and Ludacris’ (@Ludacris) social media channels and by using the hashtag #LegendaryDuo.

“Working with a real car guy and a passionate Acura owner like Ludacris has made the processes of bringing his Legend back to its original glory a fun and unique experience,” said Marek. “We wanted to put our own stamp on the Legend while retaining the essence of the original that Ludacris has worked so hard to maintain over the years and we look forward to unveiling the sedan for the first time at the SEMA Show.”

Also making its SEMA debut is a highly modified ILX from Galpin Auto Sports, which is inspired by the Legend rebuild. Both vehicles will be featured at the Acura press conference Nov. 3 at 1:00 p.m. PT and will be joined by the next-generation NSX supercar and a 2016 ILX outfitted with the Genuine Acura Accessory package.

Statement by American Honda Regarding CVT Drive Pulley Shaft Recall: 2014-2015 Civic and 2015 Honda Fit

2015 honda fit b

Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 143,000 model-year 2014-2015 Civic and 2015 Fit vehicles in the United States to update the software that manages the continuously variable transmission (CVT), free of charge. Affected vehicles have CVT control software that is written to use high hydraulic pressure during certain CVT operation modes, which as a result may subject the drive pulley shaft to high stress. In addition, during manufacturing of the drive pulley shaft, some parts may have been produced at the low end of the hardness specification. If shafts with lower hardness are repeatedly subjected to the specific high hydraulic pressure modes, it may result in the shaft breaking during operation. If the drive pulley shaft breaks, the vehicle may lose acceleration or the front wheels may lock up while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue, which was discovered through the warranty claim process in the United States.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage each owner of an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin in mid-October, 2015. Additionally, owners of these vehicles can determine if their vehicles require repair now by going to www.recalls.honda.comor by calling (888) 234-2138.

American Honda Reports Strong Car and Truck Sales for August 2015

  • Honda CR-V breaks all-time record with 34,771 units sold, rising 2.0 percent
  • Honda Accord, Civic and CR-V combine to exceed 100,000 sales in August
  • Acura TLX gains more than 90 percent in August, with 4,353 vehicles sold
  • Acura RDX continues strong run, up 9.5 percent on sales of 4,364

2015 crvAmerican Honda Motor Co., Inc. today reported August 2015 sales of 155,491 Honda and Acura vehicles, a decrease of 6.9 percent over August 2014, when the industry had one additional selling day and an early Labor Day weekend. The Honda Division sold a total of 140,178 units, while Acura reported 15,313 vehicles sold in August.

Honda
New Honda cars and trucks sold briskly last month, despite the calendar differences from a particularly strong August 2014, with Accord, Civic and CR-V easily surpassing the 100,000 mark in combined sales to stay on pace to top 1 million units and CR-V having its best month in history. Odyssey also notched a sales gain for the third straight month.

  • CR-V breaks all-time monthly sales record, rising 2.0 percent on sales of 34,771 units
  • Total truck sales were up 6.9 percent on sales of 63,897 with the all new HR-V crossover passing 4,500.
  • Accord, Civic and CR-V each posted more than 30,000 sales in August, with Accord topping 40,000 units and combining for a total of 107,733 vehicles sold

“The shorter sales month versus last year obscures the continued strong sales momentum of core Honda models,” said Jeff Conrad, Honda Division senior vice president and general manager. “We’re working hard to keep up with the strong demand for our trucks, while our sedans continue to set the bar for retail sales.”

Acura
Acura sedans enjoyed healthy August sales, strongly buoyed by the TLX as well as the redesigned ILX. The new RDX continued a quick sales pace, while MDX sales were slowed by short inventory.  Total Acura sales are up more than 10 percent year-to-date.

  • Sales of the TLX – Acura’s best-selling sedan— continued on a hot streak, increasing 90.4 percent on sales of 4,353 for the month
  • Overall Acura sedan sales gained 24 percent for a total of 6,202 units sold in August
  • RDX sales were up 9.5 percent in August, with 4,364 units sold in one of the industry’s hottest segments

“Strong sales of both sedans and trucks is now a reality for the Acura brand,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda. “Our lineup has avoided the ups and downs of the market which is keeping Acura on pace for our best sales year since 2007.”

Statement by American Honda Regarding Plug Top Ignition Coil Recall: 2015 Honda Fit

2015 honda fit bHonda will voluntarily recall approximately 17,800 model-year 2015 Fit vehicles in the United States to replace the plug top ignition coils, free of charge. The original plug top ignition coils may degrade over time, which, in the worst case, could cause the vehicle’s engine to stall, potentially increasing the risk of a crash. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue, which was discovered through the warranty claim process outside of the United States.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage each owner of an affected vehicle to take it to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin October 6, 2015. Additionally, owners of these vehicles can determine if their vehicles require repair now by going to www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.

Honda and Acura trucks led the July sales gain, combining for a 13.2 percent increase on sales of 70,613 vehicles. Honda Division sales rose 6.5 percent overall on sales of 131,409 units, while Acura reported a gain of 19.5 percent with 14,915 vehicles sold in July.

Honda
Honda trucks had another strong month, jumping 16.2 percent on sales of 61,059 vehicles. CR-V led the way with sales of over 31,000 units while the new HR-V grabbed 5,909 sales and, despite the continued production ramp-up, the brand-new 2016 Pilot earned nearly 10,000 new customers in July—its first full month on the market. Odyssey also gained significantly in July.

Despite the market rush toward trucks, Civic and Accord each posted stronger performances over 30,000 units – with Civic gaining 3.7 percent on sales of 31,139 while 34,496 Accords were sold in July to nearly match a very strong July 2014.

  • The award-winning CR-V rolled on to yet another record month, posting an 11.4 percent gain on sales of 31,785 units.
  • Odyssey maintained its upward trend, increasing 17.8 percent on sales of 12,851 vehicles in July.
  • 31,139 Civics were sold in July for a gain of 3.7 percent.

“This is not only the strongest lineup of Honda light trucks in our history, from top to bottom it is one of the hottest lineups in the industry’s hottest segment—trucks,” said Jeff Conrad, Honda Division senior vice president and general manager. “What feels really good is that Honda automobiles are also showing considerable strength, even with the new 2016 Accord and all-new Civic on the horizon.”

Acura
With a nearly 20 percent overall gain, sedans continue to evolve into one of the key Acura brand success stories. The recently refreshed ILX steps up with a best-ever July, combining with a still-streaking TLX to push Acura cars up 101.7 percent for the month. The RDX showed renewed strength as it set a new July benchmark with a nearly 30 percent gain, while the MDX is working through inventory issues.

  • The redesigned ILX posted a second straight monthly record, gaining 30.6 percent on sales of 1,613 units
  • The refreshed RDX continued its gains, jumping 29.6 percent with sales of 4,577 units in July
  • Acura sedan sales totaled 5,361 in July, up 101.7 percent for the month.

“With Acura sedan sales continuing to strengthen, the Acura brand is on its strongest footing in years,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda. “With both sedans and trucks clicking with luxury buyers Acura is on pace for our best sales year in nearly a decade.”
