2019 Honda Odyssey, Accord and CR-V Named “Best Family Cars of 2019” by Edmunds.com

The 2019 Honda Odyssey, Accord and CR-V have each been recognized as best-in-class by Edmunds.com on their just-published list of “Best Family Cars of 2019.”

The 2019 Odyssey won for Best Family Minivan, with Edmunds.com editors citing Odyssey’s Magic Slide™ seats, Cabin Watch™ and Honda VAC® among its many family-friendly features. The 2019 Accord won as Best Family Sedan thanks in part to its roomy interior and trunk, and standard Honda Sensing® suite of active safety and driver assist systems. The 2019 CR-V’s class-leading cargo space, Honda Sensing® availability, excellent fuel efficiency, and available hands-free rear liftgate helped it win the Best Small Family SUV category.

Edmunds.com editors select the winners of Best Family Car after an extensive, engineer-led vehicle testing and rating process that used more than 30 criteria in the five main areas of driving performance, comfort, interior, utility and technology. Edmunds also considered the availability of safety, technology and convenience features designed with families in mind.

Honda Accord and Odyssey Earn 2019 Edmunds Best Retained Value Awards

The 2019 Honda Accord and Honda Odyssey topped the Midsize Car and Minivan categories in Edmunds’ 2019 Best Retained Value Awards, delivering the highest projected resale value after five years of ownership. Higher retained value helps reduce the long-term cost of vehicle ownership, putting money back in the owner’s pocket when it comes time to sell or trade-in a vehicle. The Honda Accord and Odyssey are the retail best-selling midsize car and minivan in 2019.

“With a well-deserved reputation for making high quality, reliable vehicles, Honda is a mainstay on the Edmunds Best Retained Value list year-after-year,” said Richard Arca, associate director for pricing at Edmunds. “We continue to see car buyers pay a premium for Honda vehicles because they are good bets to hold their value over the course of ownership.”

Honda the Winningest Brand in Inaugural ‘2019 Edmunds Editor’s Choice Awards’ with Accord and CR-V taking Top Honors

The experts at Edmunds named the 2019 Honda Accord as “Best Sedan” and the CR-V as “Best SUV” in their inaugural “2019 Editors’ Choice Awards,” validating the quality and strength of Honda’s passenger car and light truck lineup. With wins in two of the most important categories, Honda is the winningest brand for the new Edmunds awards.

These two iconic nameplates from Honda’s broad vehicle portfolio were critical in making Honda the top retail-selling passenger car brand in 20181 and with posting its best-ever annual sales of light trucks last year. Of the Best Sedan winner, Alistair Weaver, Edmunds editor-in-chief, said, “The Honda Accord personifies the term ‘best in class’ and hits all the right marks – not just for a mid-size sedan. Spacious, easy-to-drive, tech-savvy and surprisingly upscale compared to its rivals, the Accord gives you a whole lot of car for your money and is our favorite sedan of the year.” Weaver noted for the Best SUV winner that, “The Honda CR-V dominates the fiercely competitive small SUV segment and earns our top spot among all SUVs for 2019. Practical, yet punchy; compact but spacious, the CR-V is simply the most well-rounded and thoughtfully designed SUV on the road today.”

The winners of the seven Edmunds Editors’ Choice Award are chosen from the hundreds of vehicles the editors review each year based on how they rank in more than 30 criteria across the five evaluation categories of Driving/PerformanceComfortInteriorUtility and Technology.

Honda Finishes 2018 as the Retail #1 Passenger Car Brand for the First Time

Passenger cars drive Honda’s leadership and appeal with young and first-time buyers and a growing multicultural customer base

With retail passenger car sales totaling 667,762 units in 2018, Honda was the retail best-selling passenger car brand in America in 2018 – a first in the brand’s 49-year history – according to just-released retail sales data from Urban Science. Leading the charge was the Honda Civic, which continues to dominate as the retail #1 car in America for the third straight year. Civic also led all cars and light trucks in share of all-important millennial, Gen Z and first-time new vehicle buyers1.

Accord also finished the year on a strong note, leading retail sales in the midsize car segment for the second half of 2018, while also joining Civic as the top two most popular models with first-time retail consumers, according to data from Strategic Vision.

“Passenger cars are a key part of Honda’s brand power and will remain an absolutely essential part of our business,” said Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior vice president of the American Honda Automobile Division & general manager of the Honda brand. “The Honda Civic and Accord play an outsized role in attracting first-time buyers, young buyers and a growing population of multicultural consumers to Honda.”

Honda’s full-year passenger car sales results were boosted by all-time record retail sales of electrified Honda models, led by the Accord Hybrid, Insight compact hybrid sedan and Clarity Plug-In Hybrid.

Honda also set its fourth consecutive record year for light truck sales in 2018, with big gains from the Pilot, record sales of CR-V, and continued leadership by Odyssey as the retail #1 minivan in America, now nine years running.

Laying the Foundation for Honda’s Future
Passenger cars capture 55 percent of first-time car buyers, according to data from Strategic Vision’s New Vehicle Experience survey, and Honda captures the most first-time new vehicle buyers of any brand in America, spearheaded by Civic and Accord as the #1 and #2 vehicles in the industry among first-time buyers. Civic also has captured the most millennial buyers in every year since 2011, with Accord consistently in the top three among millennial buyers, while Civic also leads the industry in sales to Gen Z customers.

Further, demonstrating leadership among multi-cultural buyers, Civic was recently recognized by the National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers and IHS Markit for having the highest ethnic volume for the 2018 model year2, an award Honda has won for three straight years.

Honda loyalty also measures at the top of the industry, and that leadership in retention extends to millennial and multicultural buyers, helping Honda create a great opportunity to build lifetime customers for the brand.
